Compressor and tools
I'm going to be getting a compressor and impact hammer to help take apart my suspension, I'm prob going to get a KOBALT.
Question is what size compressor and impact hammer would be good to do the job? I don't want one that JUST has enough power to barely get the job done. |
I hope you mean impact wrench and not hammer! The only nut or bolt you should have any problems with is the spindle nut, I just use the 1/2" 625 ft. lbs. impact wrench from harborfreight. It sometimes has a little hard time on the spindle nut but has so far worked each time. Just as important is that your compressor has enough PSI, usually at least 100 psi is needed and a GOOD hose.

Ari covered it pretty well. I will add that the bigger the impact gun, the more air it requires to reciprocate the impact action. Therefore you're going to need a sizable tank - 1, to contain air and 2, to keep the air pressure required by the gun. For example, a tiny 3 gallon pancake compressor will run out of air before it gets up to hammer speed. But then, as it gets up to speed, the air pressure in the tank will start to drop. The motor will kick in but then it's too late.
For my home garage, I have a 21 gallon like this. http://www.harborfreight.com/air-too...sor-67847.html Even at 21 gallons, it will re-pump air when removing 1 wheel (5 lug nuts). So, even with this tank, I have barely 2 seconds of effecting impact action.... and that's only a 325lb gun. So, plan ahead... good luck. |

The harbor freight gun costs $79 and has worked for me as I don't wrench daily or for a living, the ingersoll rand is about $300 right? If you have the extra money I don't have a problem with that :)
P.S. I don't preach Honda OEM fluid"s", just OEM ps fluid. However, I do also only use Type II coolant in my Acura's and Honda's. |
I've got a 25 gal craftsman pro compressor, belt driven so it's nice and quite. As for the impact wrench, also craftsman pro composite body. It's light as hell, lighter than the ingersoll and puts out 720 ft/lbs.

i did my passenger side axel with a breaker bar,and it took me 6-7 hours(im light),used my fathers 300 gal compressor,and impact wrench on the drivers side,and i couldnt believe how easy the job was, that goes for the suspention as well,and yes harbor fright is risky,i bought tools from there,and never had trouble untill i bought a gravity fed spray gun to spray my sons fiberglassed power wheels truck,and the regulator broke right away...> thank god i had one on the compressor

I got a harbor freight one...ripped 3 cars completely apart with it and it works great!
Now hf welders suck ass I bought one and returned it |
