Default gas in the crankcase

working on a 91 legend type-1 engine.
pulled the motor/tranny and swapped in a known good engine.
all went well, until the initial test drive...15 minutes of warm up time, then a slow 25mph test...the oil light started flickering, and on my way back to the garage, the rocker assembly started ticking.
pulled the oil dipstick to check, and it wreaked of fuel.
drained the oil into a clean pan...it was about the texture of powersteering fluid...thinned out by fuel.
compression iis at 160-165 all six cylinders..when i started the car,it was smooth running, not a rough idle.
intake gasket was replaced, and i am certain it is sealing properly.
whats next? fuel injectors?
thanks guys, Dan

Did you change the oil in the engine yourself after installing it? Did you have valve covers off at all?

Having seconds thoughts on the "known good" portion of that statement?

Are you sure it's fuel? It's far more likely that it's coolant and what you're smelling is exhaust gases and not fuel. What color was the oil?

defenently fuel..oil was runny, not 'milkshake'..coolant level is still full and no indication of oil in the coolant either..
so,without waiting for a reply,i replaced the fuelrail,pressure regulator,injectors,and spark plugs.
ran it for 20 minutes with no oil light flickering or coming on..no engine 'ticking'.
will run it for a short trip and see how its doing then report back.

The only other time I have came across this problem, was on an engine where the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm had broken and allowed fuel to leak past it.
