Did a quick search on upgrading to some Type II parts and am a bit concerned about the ECU side of things. Matt indicated that if you put Type II cams in your Type I head you have to change the ECU over (correct me if I'm wrong). However because we don't have EGR on our ADM vehicles I have a feeling the US ECU wouldn't work without throwing a code... perhaps I should try and find a JDM Type II ECU however I imagine they are as rare as hen's teeth.
Any ideas? EDIT: Just remembered JDM has EGR as well :/

If you don't have the ECU, you won't get the full benefit of the new cams. The engine will run weird and the check engine light will be on. Trust me I know, I did it the same way.

So the question is, how can I install a Type II ECU into my ADM engine not equipped with EGR?

You would need a custom chipped ECU.
Do note that not only are you running without EGR, you are running a lower compression ratio of 9.0:1 and the current ECU is tuned for low octane gas. -Matt

maybe if you can find a second ecu you could send it to telion or matt for chipping
If possible when doing type-II parts you could try to raise compression (HG or complete head swap?) I'm guessing you might have different pistons since any dramatic head height changes would require different timing belts. unlikely with such a low difference.
