How are you guys fixing the power antenna issues? It goes partially up and partially down. Should I just get a new mast? Or, will a whole new unit with motor be necessary? I tried a couple from the junk yard and they all seem to have the same issue. Thx |

As long as the motor works at all, replacing the mast should be enough.. I replaced mine, but it still didn't fix it...until I dismantled the motor and realized that the gears/teeth that actually pull/push the mast are on the underside of the motor. Completely disassemble and make sure the teeth fully engage.

No Clean out the inside and reapply new grease and buy a brand new OEM honda/acura mast The cheap ebay masts suck dick over time with the bending of the plastic toothed antenna mast piece the gear teeth wear down and it doesn't fit as snug as it should which causes it to slip Check this DIY out for cleaning it that i made. Im sure the legend unit is the same with just a different bracket and exterior plug http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=166674

The number one cause for our antennas breaking is that the teeth break. I believe the part is like $20. (I could be wrong on the price)

Aside from the antenna masts breaking (which is the most common problem), there's another issue with our antennas... There is a small peg that pushes the masts teeth up against the gears inside the antenna. This piece can corrode and/or soften and start to bend. The teeth in the antenna mast go between this gear and the peg, once that peg weakens and bends or breaks there's not enough pressure on the antenna mast and the gears slip. If your antenna still slips or doesn't fully extend or retract after cleaning the inside and replacing the mast, this is likely the problem. With a little modification, this peg can be removed and replaced with a very small nut and bolt and a stack of washers. I used size M3 machine screw+nut, and M4 washers. The DIY linked above for cleaning shows how to get to this piece.

Excellent info! I disconnected my electrical connector and left the mast extended part way after Winter ice froze it a few times. This thread gives me incentive to make a repair. Nice write up and pics. Thanks.
