Default Questions about programming SWI-Jack

I tried a couple of times at PAC's Tech Support, but maybe my questions were not clear, so I 'll try the experts here.

I installed a Kenwood DDX371, and it works OK. I did the programming to get the swi-jack to work between the Kenwood and the Legend ('94 L). The jack light flashes three times (for the Kenwood), so that bit of programming seems OK.

What I am unclear about is programming the Audio button on the steering wheel. The PAC tech said I could program the radio to do what I want, but that is not clear to me. The PAC chart shows 10 functions that are possible to program. I assume that the steering wheel audio button knows whether the radio, or a cd disc, or a USB device is playing.

My questions:

If I program in "Seek Up" will the radio seek the next preset (as on the Bose)or do a regular seek (one next station at a time) on the radio?

If I program in "Track Up" will the cd I am playing move forward one track?
How about the moving to the next track if I am using a USB stick?

If I program in "Track Down," will the steering wheel control only do Track Down thereafter, or will it know I want Track up the next time?

Thanks for any and all help!

That will all depend mainly on your headunit. the SWI-JACK can only duplicate/simulate functions that exist on the remote control that's designed for that headunit. Press the button you're unsure about using on the remote control, and you will get the same result when you program the steering wheel button for that function.

Sorry to get back to you late. Thanks for your message. When you say "remote control," are you talking about a remote that comes with the head unit? In this case, there is no remote control with the Kenwood DDX371.

It may not come packaged with a remote, but there is one. That's how the SWI-JACK works, it plugs into the remote control input port on the back of the headunit. I'd say just program the Audio button for whatever function you want and see how it works... If it doesn't do what you want, program it for a different function... With the stock headunit, the audio button has three separate functions. With an aftermarket headunit it can only perform one command. But if the headunit uses the same command for multiple functions based on its current state then it will do that for the Audio button as well.

Thanks for getting back to me again!
I see what you mean about remote control at the headunit. Yes, the OEM radio has a port marked remote control on the rear, and my '94 L as a purple connector that fits in there. There is a single blue wire in that connector.

And, as you suggested, I went ahead and programmed the swi-jack. It took me about 6-7 times to master the sequence that must be followed to do that job right. And the volume controls on the steering wheel now work-the radio opens a window showing the volume as a number going up or down, just like the volume knob on the radio does. And the audio button move the tuner to the next present station, just like the OEM radio. I have not yet tested the cd track function that I programmed in- I have to spend some time with the Kenwood manual first.

I was a bit annoyed when I went to put everything back together. The frame supplied by Kenwood was too high to fit into the wood surround that covers the radio and the transmission. It took me several hours of careful sanding to reduce the height of that plastic piece to fit in properly, but it finally went in there. And the width of that piece was on the narrow side, too. I'll let Kenwood know about this.

Thanks for your help!
