| ParkingGarageProject | missing a bolt / possibly needing a part + bolt

hey guys, I'm brand new to this forum(I do apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place), 3 weeks new to the Legend. when I hit bumps, it sounds almost like a bad strut - you all know the sound - muffled metal on metal clanking every time you hit a bump. attached is the picture, you'll see what I mean. what is missing??? I can usuay figure things out pretty easily but I have no clue on this one & I don't know why. Last edited by 6Spd_LSCoupeII; 07-02-2020 at 03:36 AM. Reason: typo |

Well I don't see the picture. However the metal on metal sound going over bumps sounds like the strutt mounts rubber bushings are gone. It could be the strutts themselves have come to the end of their life. Here is a link to one of the mounts and I do recommend the Moog brand. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Suspension-...d/223682677744 Feel free though to shop around on the price as sometimes you can catch a deal on these. I would look into replacing ALL FOUR as they generally go out in quick succession of one another. I've had my GS sedan since November 2000 and have stopped counting the number of times I have had to replace the strutts. Depending on how you want your car to ride I can make a couple of recommendations on replacing the strutts. Welcome to your likely FIRST big expense repair in your three weeks of Legend ownership. Sadly these cars are OLD and the expensive repairs are a bit commonplace now with them.

An disintegrated rear transmission mount will also rattle around, which you’d feel in the hump.

You and I have been at this for a LONG time. I can think of a FEW other things that might be the cause of his noise. My coupe ended up having bad mounts when I bought it and was the source of the undetermined noise the prior owner couldn't locate. The engine literally would roll when taking turns and would hit the subframe making quite a disturbing rubbing/grinding sound. Jonslegend and another tech he worked with figured it out. GOOD Legend mechanics are VERY HARD to come by these days! To the original poster here is a suggestion. When I bought my coupe the seller made a video of his test drive and a few other things I requested then posted the video on YouTube and sent me the link. I already KNEW the integrity of the seller and his video was on point with EVERYTHING. I'll probably NEVER be sold on a car like that again but if you post up the video link that might help us in helping you determine if its a suspension issue or not.

guys I'm so sorry I haven't been able to figure out this forum & find my post. it's a bolt that goes to the frame from some kind of mount, I'll find the fitting bolt & put it on, won't be an issue! however I can't start the thing now. it ran just puuurrrrfect this morning, now it just clicks once. I saw something about tapping the starter, where is that even located??

The starter is on the BACK side of the block behind the alternator. I just learned that the other day when looking at the removed new heart for my coupe. Okay looks like we need to SEE this hole so we can stop pulling at straws trying to figure this one out.

Yes I'm at clb26@hotmail.com. I may be able to get you that bolt TODAY as there are the remains of a 95 GS here locally that I got the engine out of and most of the bolts were left there at the yard. It may be difficult to figure out which one(s) you may need though (perhaps I'll just grab multiple different ones). This car is scheduled for recycling ANY day now so timing is critical.

I get so busy restoring the legend & I forget all about my questions & this forum altogether. thanks for trying to get me that part – I should have been more attentive. but I'll save your number & shoot you a text in a few hours so you have mine as well. ** is that picture showing up for you on my previous post?** |
