Okay so I got 290K on the odometer and I'm kinda wrestling with if I should change my oil pump or not.
I'm planning to do a timing belt and to replace the oil pan gaskets and the figure 8 gasket. The only problem is I don't have the time or place to lay up my legend for 2-3 days in order to do it all at once atm. I can however do each job separately and still drive it home the same day. If I decide to do the oil pump I would have to combine the 2 jobs essentially and that would cause me to basically wait to have them done till I could borrow a car for a few days while I did the work. Do the oil pumps on these cars last 400K? I have the oil pump already from partsgeek but it's an aftermarket one, returning it is not a problem. I am planning to do an oil change and coolant flush soon, so I would like to get the oil pan gasket and figure 8 gasket done at the same time. Then do the timing belt and water pump shortly after. Think I would be okay to leave the oil pump in for another timing belt change interval at 300K? EDIT: I should not I'm planning to swap to full synethic 10w-40 at this oil change. |

Can't remember if I used a bottom end kit or used nearest standard metric O-rings. (0.5mm increments) These links give the Honda sizes. OIL PUMP http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda...block_03=21099 CYLINDER BLOCK/OIL PAN http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda...block_03=21099 I left the oil pump itself, and can't comment on the longevity of it. The job took some time, but the pleasingness was noteworthy. ![]() You may choose to leave well enough alone, especially with your time constraints. ![]() |

Yeah the outside is very grimmey so I know I'm gonna do some cleaning which is why I wanna break the job up into 2 parts as well. My valve cover didn't inspire confidence that the bottom end is any better so. What I might do is do the timing belt and oil pump and jus deal with the leak for a bit till I can replace the oil pan gasket.
EDIT: Think I'm just gonna start really early in the morning and go till the job is done basically, just remember I have to do all the cam caps too so there is a bunch of stuff I gotta do while the timing belt is off. Last edited by Cryser; 01-28-2013 at 07:09 PM. |

to do it all at once. The oil pump should be disassembled and the gears checked, but usually there is not much wear. |

I'm at 310k miles with the original oil pump, on an engine that is no stranger to the redline.
