I might eat fast food twice a month... I cook all my meals or eat at healthier locations.

But man sometimes nothing beats a McDouble...
You want to legislate good eating habits?hgeez: In that case maybe we should have a dentist penalty. Every time you get a cavity you have to pay $500 to Uncle Same.

This reminds me of the proposed Mississippi legislation that banned obese people from restaurants.

Technically it would be legislating luxury food, not eating habits. I agree with it in principle, can't see it working in practice. Remember when the tobacco companies had to shell out money because cigarettes kill? How much of that money did we actually end up using for smokers healthcare, about none of it.

People get better results when inspired by the carrot instead of the stick. Better to decrease taxes on fruits and vegetables. I wouldn't take it any further than that though, ever tried a 100 calorie pack snack of anything? All they do is decrease portion to nothing.

in which case makes you eat more since your still hungry.

I cant say I dont hit up McD's and BK and such, unfortunately iin my current job...I eat on the run (and thats pretty damn dangerous, I know...but the perils of fighting tooth and nail to live right now).....but i do TRY to eat somewhat healthly....I get the fruits and such many times instead of fries, but I TRY to eat from the healthier side of the menu....

I don't eat near as healthily as I probably should, so I started taking some of those adult gummy multivitamins about 6 months ago..so far they seem to really do make quite a difference as far as fatigue and sickness, not a substitute for actually eating healthy, but better than nothing, I think. There is a lot of studies that contradict each other on benefits of vitamins, but when i was little i always thought in the future we would get our food in pill form, so I like believing they help

That's short sighted: the health ramifications of a poor diet will cost you more in health care years down the road than you'll save in the meantime on food.

Unfortunately, I'm watching a coworker go through exactly this right now: dude isn't even 50 and he's CLEARLY obese, has regular health difficulties that impede his ability to show up to work, yet still insists upon eating fast food every day.

I'm with kotetu on this one: I don't think this is the sort of thing the government should be spending its time legislating on. Unfortunately, folks seem incapable of either recognizing or eliminating (hell, even REDUCING for some) their poor choices, especially when it comes to food. Somebody's gotta do something... but who? I don't trust the populace to take action themselves: if they were so trustworthy, obesity wouldn't be the epidemic it is today. I don't go a day, even outside the office, without seeing a make-no-mistakes-about-it obese individual. Often, it's many folks that fit the description.

It's sad, pathetic, ridiculous, and maddening. America the only place in the world with widespread, simultaneous malnourishment and obesity. Only the human race is capable of doing this sort of shit to themselves.

Who? Who! hahaha! My friend, when the government treats banks and businesses as too big to fail and bail them out/subsidize them, you can be sure they will do the same to people. I however believe businesses and people should live and die on their own merit. So when you ask who, I say DARWIN. MUWAHAHAH!

This is pretty idiotic and I heard about this weeks ago because that article is talking about Santa Clara county aka the county I live in. So it will affect my local Mickey D's.

They are taking away the toys, not the actual food that causing it. Stupid. What if kids already like the food? It aint gonna stop them. And yeah lets single out Mickey D's so that these kids can go to Wendys and Burger King and eat just as unhealthy there and get their toy. It's just dumb because it's a parents job to raise their kids.

On the other hand, food can be just as dangerous as drugs to some people. Some people who are obese use food as a drug. But I don't think kids eating happy meals fall into this category tho.

BTW I don't eat McD's that much, but I love their fries and hot fudge sundaes. I used to love them as a kid. But then I realized their burgers taste like shit compared to a real burger. I alternate my fast food eating between Wendys, BK, Carls Jr, Taco Bell... I like em all equally haha. Value menu FTW tho if you're gonna eat unhealthy food might as well not spend a lot doing it

Honestly I have bought a happy meal just for the toy. When I was a kid and BK had simpsons toys I would go just for the toy. But that doesn't mean a county should be able to make a law banning toys from the meals. I'm not for laws that protect you from yourself. Although I probably wouldn't wear a seatbelt if there was no law. I make everyone in the car wear a seatbelt, not because I'm concerned for their safety, but because I don't want to get pulled over. So sometimes very rarely those laws can help people.

So by that logic people that get food delivered must be the even fatter and lazier than the people that use drive-thrus right?

I don't like that argument at all. Drive-thrus are the solution not the problem. The fact is the only food you can get at a drive-thru is unhealthy crap. Imagine if you could get something fresh and healthy from a drive-thru. It would be a longer wait because it would have to be made after you order it but if the food is good people will gladly deal with the extra wait (just look at in-n-out burger for an example).

I remember making a trip across the country when I was a teenager and seeing drive-thru quick stops (I think it was in ohio). I thought that was one of the greatest ideas I had ever seen and I don't know why more places don't have them. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted just 1 or 2 things from a store (like something to drink) and I have to get out of the car and wait in line for 1 item. It's unnecessary. Just think of all the smokers that have to stop their car and go inside just to get 1 pack of ciggarettes.
