				  | 2023 ABS updated info thread

As most Og's know our ABS units are starting to cause more and more problems. I may have more going on with mine since I did a full restomod(see build thread)and removed the unit to do engine bay paint and lines etc. At one point I was not going to have ABS until I decided it's a good thing. Anyways this thread can be for a consolidation of facts gathered over the years by members on diagnoses per codes and such , as well as what can be rebuilt and how. This thread can be moved or stickied. So I will start with my contribution as I do not need to nor have the time to rebuild people units and someone already is who I hope brings some knowledge and videos here. I have looked into swapping ABS units with a newer style but have not gotten very far. My contribution is this: When rebuilding do not just change the copper sealing washers on the brake line running from the lower part of unit up to the modulator, replace the whole brake line. If you got the whole thing out, you are going to want to at the very least try and clean up the bracket and maybe sandblast and paint. Brake fluid can be corrosive over time and more than likely your bracket is not in good shape. Find a place that can make them and here are the specs you will need: I used Venhill USA Length 7in 20degree banjo on one end straight banjo on other end Both will allow a 10mm x 1.00 bolt to pass through I had both ends swivel just in case. I also ordered mine in ORANGE to designate ABS. A side issue I have always had is not being able to get a good seal on a reinstalled brake booster with anything other than the stock rubber piece. I ripped mine and no matter what I cannot get a good seal. I did a full clean and have new Dorman Reservoir. Any advice on this issue would be much appreciated. |

I have wanted to dive into this topic myself, but haven't really had the time yet. I have a used ABS unit sitting on my workbench waiting for me. I know for sure that the bracket on mine is rusted to hell. I have a friend that does small batch CNC machining....perhaps I could talk to him about machining some billet aluminum replacement brackets? Would that be of help to people wanting to do a complete rebuild?

I think if you got a sheet of butyl and cut out a pattern you might be able to make your own. I think we might be moving into a new exciting age of Legend ownership... parts are discontinued and hard to find. Technology has improved to the point we can start making things way more simply with CAD... hell, i know for a fact that two other members and I are professionals whom do 3D modeling daily. This could end up being quite a bit fascinating. | |

^^ I will try that. Sometimes the simplest ideas work. Then since I have my airbag and stuff disassembled I think it may not be engaging my ABS since it is now "disabled" to the ECU.
