Mine apparently died tonight. No fluid loss, all brakes working, but the pedal is dead until about ½-¾ the way down. I pulled into a gas station, got gas, paid for it, and came out, brakes were fine pulling in, as I pulled out though, I went to stop, pedal dropped, I panicked, and locked them up. Pulled back up to the store, checked everything, there was no fluid loss from any of the reservoirs, or calipers, all the lines are fine, and all the calipers seem to be working fine. I have brakes, but instead of having half a pedal of travel from just dragging to locked, I have about a fourth. It's exactly what my friend's Topaz did when his MC went out, only his went out over 4 months, mine went out over 4 minutes. I know for whatever stupid reason the MCs are ALB and non ALB, but why? Why can't I use the one from the '87? I'll probably grab the one at the junk yard on Friday, there's a Melbourne Blue '90 LS there. I've got to go grab a couple sensors, auto climate motor, and some other little doodads. (lol@ doodads not triggering spell check) Is there any way to check a MC to be good or not without fluid? The junk yard empties all the fluids out of the cars. |

Sucks, same shit happened to me when the MC gave up on me. The only way I knew it went out was because fluid started leaking on the back side where it mounts to the booster and the booster had fluid fluid on it l, which ended up eating the paint off of it.

Why not to get a new MC? I believe they are not very expensive, on brakes is always to get new parts but if is not possible then used one is fine. I have a used one you can have but wonder what is cheaper the junk yard one or shipping from ELP to you.

Well if it's an ALB MC. But it's only $10 at the junk yard. And $67 new. So, it's quite a lot cheaper used.

Ya it's cheaper, but you won't know how long it'll last.

...you'd have a fun time trying to make a good seal, to a point where you compromise the hydraulic fluid line; that would still leak!

how long are MC's supposed to last anyways? Better hope the one you're grabbing from the JY isn't the Original, because its probably on its last leg. |

The answer to that question is probably largely contingent on the maintenance of the braking system itself...especially the fluid.

Well after buying the one at the junk yard, I came home, popped the hood, and noticed a pin on the floorboard. It was for the brake. I apparently put them in backwards, had the clutch pin in the brake, and the brake pin in the clutch. The brake pin is shorter, and the colder pin won't go in it. So I switched them, put in colder pins, and everything is back to normal. Now I just have to go get my $10 credit. lol
