Hi all,
I've looked at a lot of the posts related to the factory alarm in the 2nd generation legend, and I can't seem to find my particular situation. Here it is: Parked my car and locked the door with my key, as the power locks haven't worked since I bought it 6 months ago. When I came out and tried to unlock it, the factory alarm starts blaring. Thinking I can just put the key in the ignition and start it... No. The battery is charged, but the car won't turn over. The alarm won't go off until the two minute window expires. Then as soon as I turn the key anywhere, it goes off again. From the ignition, from the passenger side keylock or the driver side keylock. I unhooked the battery for a good five minutes, both terminals, and as soon as I hooked It back up, the alarm started blaring. I disconnected the plug from the alarm by the gas pedal, and the alarm was quiet, but the car still won't turn over. I've locked the car from the inside and tried to unlock it from the outside, the alarm goes off. The only plus is that I discovered the reason my power locks didn't work was because they were unplugged... so at least they work on a car that won't start. I've read about the paper clip trick, but my question is: If the alarm won't set with the hood open, then why does it go off as soon as I reattach the battery? Any help would be appreciated please. I don't want to take this to a mechanic for something I'm overlooking. Does the factory alarm always prevent the car from starting? Thanks. PS- When the horn is honking, I can hear the "lights left on" chime chiming sporadicly. |

You need to disconnect both battery terminals and short them toghether for some time. Allow the car to sit with both terminals disconnected over night. Hook everything back up the next morning with both doors and trunk open and it should start right up. Do the paper clip trick so u wont have the problem again.

Think you just need to insert the key into the drivers door lock, turn to left three times and to the right twice (or vice versa). That is the over ride. Good luck

It works if you have a factory alarm and the car won't crank. Happened to me on an old coupe and this was the advice from a dealer. It worked.

it means you need a new door actuator, i had the same problem. you can for a temporary fix, disable the alarm, by removing a pin underneath the hood, so that the car thinks the hood is open
