Default Check here for rust if you haven't already.

I decided it was time to clean 222,000 miles' worth of filth from underneath the plastic scuff plate type things in the door jamb. I removed it by pulling out the plastic fastener and unscrewing the 2 screws, and then just pulling up. It was filthy and still had some plastic the dealer should have removed underneath, so I pulled the plastic off and cleaned everything up (I took pictures of the filth and then my camera died). My California-kept, always garaged Legend had quite a bit of rust underneath all the dirt that could have turned for the worse if I didn't remove it. I sanded it away, touched it up, and then put a long strip of duct tape over the part that isn't visible when the scuff plate is installed, to prevent more paint from being rubbed off. I went to the rear drivers side door, same situation. The passenger side doors weren't as rusty, but there was still a little bit of it.

Edit: I made a diagram of my only picture

Red is where rust was
Gray is where duct tape was placed
Green is where I had to touch up to prevent rust

I just found this new product from Sweden, I used google translate to get the scoop, but it is a solvent free eco-friendly and less harmful rust preventative - I don't have any rust issues, but if I ever do, I will buy this and try it out
