I know this has been discussed a million times and I'm not really looking for a new discussion, but rather just an answer.
I'm looking to remove the precats and then put some pipes instead. Is there anywhere to get pipes that has the right dimensions to put instead of the precats? If so, where can I buy them? Last edited by Gothche; 04-15-2012 at 05:17 AM. |

There are no pipes that will swap right in place of the pre-cats. But you can replace the Y-pipe with Type 1 parts or Y-pipe and headers with OBX.

I will not replace the y-pipe with type1 pipe, since to my knowledge the type1 pipe is smaller. Do you know the exact diameter of the type2 y-pipe ? Cause then I will just buy a pipe with the same diameter and cut and weld.

You will need to fab up a pipe to bypass those cats.
Type-I was iirc smaller. If you need specs i have a spare one. Although the OBX route would be a more interesting one. |

If you could help me with the diameter of the type2 y-pipe I would be thankful. Then I will just use two short pipes with the diameter needed.

Does the EDM's have pre-cats I can't remember, it's been a while since I saw a EDM Legend.
Can you tell me if I'm wrong when saying the type1 pipe is 2.25inches and the type2 is 2.5inches? What did you change in your exhaust system? |

I would need to go and measure but it certainly not that big I'd say 1,75 inch and Type-II 2 inch. If making your own i'd say 2.5 inch If you would use metric tubing, I'd say use 60 or 65mm. |

Ok, so can anyone tell me the precise dimensions of the pre-cats?
Lenght of pre-cats and the diameter of the pipes(Y-pipe) connected to the pre-cats, if possible. Then I don't have to take it all apart, before having the pipes custom made. I think you are right the type2 pipe isn't 2.5 but only 2.25, there would be no reason to put in a pipe that was 2.5 where the pre-cats had been, when in fact the 2.5 would then go into the 2.25 stock pipes. That will make no improvement. Last edited by Gothche; 04-15-2012 at 11:55 AM. |
