Default Remove Hub Assembly / replace wheel studs

I 'borrowed' this from Jeff/Stella

I went to auto zone and rented:
36mm socket
slide hammer and hub puller bracket

wasn't very much and they return your money when u bring your tools back.

I also picked up a 2 1/2 ton hydraulic jack on clearance for $30 at AZ! My buddy took his jack back so

first, remove the wheel then remove the caliper. 2 bolts on back. then the caliper bracket. 2 bolts. Then remove the rotor. There are 2 phillips screws on the front of the rotor you need to take out before you can pull the rotor. The best way of getting them out without stripping is to a ratchet and a wide phillips head bit.

After that remove the rotor.
Should look like this:

the nut in the center is want you want off. I went to the local shop and had it loosened alittle with a impact wrench so i would not break any tools trying to pry it off. (its happened to many members (torq spec is 206!)

This is the nut off

I attached the bracket to the 3 GOOD studs and tighten down flush with the hub assembly

The slide hammer threads into the center of the bracket. You want to try and push the axel out the back of the hub assy. by threading in the slide hammers rod. Back the axle out as far as you can. Then, give the slide hammer a good few wacks. It should come off pretty easy.

This is with the hub removed:Axl/bearings/housing

This is the rear of the hub assy.:

If you are replacing a stud, turn it on its back and carefully hammer out the bad stud. Do it on a towel or wood . you dont want to damage the bearing race.

Then press in the new stud. i used a c clamp and a deep socket to press it in as far as i could

Once that was done, it was time to reunite the hub to the axle. This in when you bust out the grease!!!!! I used white lithium grease. GREESE EVERYTHING!!! The bearings are loose so be careful but get some good grease in them. then grease the splines on the axle.

dont forget to also grease the splines on the inside of the hub assy. as well as the bearing race.

Re insert the hub assy. back onto the axle while holding the CV joint from behind. Lightly tap on the front of the hub with a hammer until the axle starts to come through.

This is a good time to remove the lug bolts holding the slide hammer bracket on.

once you get the threads on the tip of the axle through the hub to catch on the nut, tighten down as hard as you can!!!

Then re-install the rotor/ caliper bracket/ pads/ caliper/in the opposite order.
The stud im pointing to is the one i replaced!

DONT FORGET to go back to the shop and have them re tighten the axle nut back to torq spec which is 206 and stake it.

I hope this helps contributes to the forum and anyone who it might help.

WERD!
Jeff

ok im having trouble with the last step.. its been a pain in the ass. i cant seem to seperate the hub from the axel. ive put on the axel puller "foot" and used my slide hammer and pushed in the axel as far toward the inside as possible and took whacks towards the outside with the slide hammer and it just wont come off! im trying to replace my studs cause walmart and those grease pigs screwed 3 of them up.. they dont know how to use impact wrenches properly..

I just want to point out that this is *NOT* the proper procedure for this job. Once the hub is removed from the bearing, the bearing is destroyed and needs to be replaced! You have to cut off the old race and press the hub into the new bearing with at least a 10 ton press.
