Default Checking Timing Q's

Think the sixer I have for sale has a problem with timing. Maybe a tooth off? It is sorta a dog down low. And it takes a couple seconds to start when cold.

From the looks of it, I'm a tooth off on both cams.

I'm never set timing on one of these engines. I'm going to release the tbelt tensioner, slide the belt off both cam gears, align the cams, put the belt back on and tighten the tensioner. Then check timing. Any advice is appreciated.

i assume u got the timing mark on the crank where its suppose to be? b/c it loks like they are both off to one side

Ooops, I was on the middle mark of the three off to the side. Eeek. Glad you said something! hgeez:

The middle mark is 15 degrees BTDC . try the TDC mark

The engine was timed right. I got the tbelt off both cam gears ever so carefully, then realized I hadn't checked the timing right. Everything is back together now. This was a free learning experience. I'm lovin the free ones. Usually, I learn the expensive way.

I've noticed it running better each day I've been daily driving it. Maybe this car had set for a while. Gas has probably lost some octane. Goanna put some 92 in it soon.

^ try adding something like HEET into the gas
